Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita welcomed Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen to Rabat on her first official visit to the Kingdom, describing it as part of a highly positive momentum in bilateral relations. He said the visit reflects Morocco’s strategy, under King Mohammed VI’s leadership, to diversify its partnerships within the European Union and deepen ties beyond the Mediterranean to Northern, Central, and Eastern Europe. Bourita pointed to the progress made since his visit to Helsinki in August 2024, citing increased ministerial exchanges, stronger economic ties, and enhanced cooperation in security and consular affairs. He also highlighted growing trade and investment ties, noting that 40 Finnish companies are operating in Morocco and that Moroccan exports to Finland rose by 72% while imports increased by 47% between 2024 and 2025. Bourita said both sides also discussed cooperation in cybersecurity, water treatment, renewable energy, migration, and counterterrorism, alongside regional and international issues, including Palestine, the Gulf, and Africa. He reaffirmed Morocco’s support for Finland’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2029–2030 term, calling the visit another step forward in a partnership built on mutual respect, friendship, and practical cooperation.
